PLEASE NOTE:
RED ALERT BOX UPDATED 3/1/2021 9:30 AM

There has been some inconsistency in the message for whether those in quarantine are poolees or recruits. After speaking with the CWO2 Yarbrough at the Communication Strategy and Operations (CSO) office at MCRD Parris Island, we will be referring to those in quarantine as POOLEES. CWO2 Yarbrough told us the Marine Corps wants a clear distinction between those in quarantine and those in training. Poolees in quarantine are in a more relaxed environment without Drill Instructors. Poolees will become recruits after stepping on the Yellow Footprints. We are currently updating the pages on our websites that refer to poolees in quarantine to ensure the message is consistent.

Poolee Quarantine: Phone Calls

What about phone calls during Quarantine?
It depends on many factors and varies pretty widely. SOME locations allow phone calls during 2-week quarantine and others do NOT. If they are permitted phone calls during quarantine, here are some things to know:

VARIANCES:
The poolees are typically in several locations during the two-week period of Quarantine prior to arriving at the Depot to begin training. Each location for quarantine has established its procedure that works well for that location. If the location does NOT PERMIT phone calls, none of the below information is relevant.

DESIGNATED TIMES FOR CALLS:
Each location will have its own designated times for calls. The poolees are typically two to a room. Different rooms will also be designated specific times for calls and sharing that time with their roommate. Those time frames and days seem to revolve around the room number the poolee is in, even or odd.

INCOMING OR OUTGOING CALLS:
Again, this is dependent on the location to give approval for either "incoming" calls from family members or "outgoing calls" from the poolee. It varies widely.

WHAT PHONE NUMBER WILL THEY CALL FROM?
They may be provided a cell phone to call from or they may use the in-room phone. The caller ID may or may not be visible. Make sure your phone is set to accept phone calls without a caller ID. Keep this setting for the duration of quarantine and boot camp.

LENGTH OF TIME FOR THE CALL:
Typically, the pair of roommates share one hour of call time between them.

WRITE DOWN WHAT YOUR POOLEE TELLS YOU:
Your poolee is the most accurate source for information; make sure you keep paper and pen with your phone so you can write done his/her instructions for calls (and the address!) when they call you upon arrival at their Quarantine location. If you did NOT get the information from your poolee, contact his/her local Marine Recruiter.

FOR RECRUIT PRIVACY AND TROOP SECURITY:
Please do not share the address or phone number for the quarantine location in our group as comments or asking for or sending a PM to members. Keep our troops safe!
